Review 2013: The Last Journey

The Slave's Dream

A firebrand, a rest skill and prudent speech:  In memory of Dr Nelson Mandela

Did you know? In the early 50's Robben Island was used as Dutch settlement

Beside the ungathered rice the lay...
His sickle in his hands;  breast was bare his matted hair was buried in the sand.
Again in the mist and shadow of skep.
He saw his Native land wide through the landscape of his dreams.

The Lordly Niger flowed, beneath the palm of his trees on the plain.
Once more a King he strode; and heard the tinkling caravans descend the mountain road.
He saw once more his dark eyed queen...
Among her children stand; they clasped his neck, they kissed his cheeks...
They held him by the hand!-

A tear burst from the sleepers lids,
And fell into the sand.
And then at furious speed he rode.
Along the Niger's bank...
His bridle reins were golden chains, with a material clank,

At each leap he could feel his scab bard of steel, miting his stallion flank.
Before him, like blood red frog, the bright flamingoes flew; from morn till night he followed their flight.
O'er plains where the tamarind grew, till he saw the roots of Caffre huts...
And the oceans rose to view.

The World Mourns Mandela

10 December was the official memorial services which was held at FNB stadium, Soweto.  Crowds were in festive mood despite rain.  Tens of people gathered at FNB stadiun to honour Madima.  President Zuma was booed by the crowd!!! People showed displeasure in front of International guest.  The behaviour showed lack of discipline and respect towards our president.  It was blatant for the crowd to react like that, Zuma was booed throughout the session especially when his image was displayed.  The tables have turned; people applaud former president Thabo Mbeki than Zuma.

I was not surprised, Zuma have done bad things this year and have not answered any of them- issues like E-tolls and Nkandla upgrade.  Which side were you taking, booed Zuma or you were discipline?  What I know is that respect is earned and it was not a right place to show dissatisfaction.

''I learned that courage was not the absence of  fear, but the triumph over it.  The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he conquers that fear''- Nelson Mandela.

Outstanding performance, should I say speech.  The man who stole the show with capability and ability to do so as he payed tribute to Madiba.  US President Barack Obama.  Obama received the loudest welcome!!! Shortly after he finished his prudent speech, some mourners began to leave.  We do love Obama fever right?  ''South Africa, the world thank you for sharing Mandela with us'', said Obama.  A great speaker and vocal as well, Mr Obama made it clear than Madiba inspires him to be a better man.  It's a singular honour to be here today, to celebrate a life like no other, stated Barack Obama.  ''I recall Madiba introducing his jailers as honoured guests at his inauguration'', continued Obama.

Updates:  Mandela's body to be transported in procession to Union Buildings on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Mandela's body to lie in the state at the Union Buildings Amphitheatre.  Members of the public must be accredited to pay respect to Mandela at Union Buildings.  But, no photographs or video footage will be allowed during lying in state.  Visuals of Mandela lying in state to be broadcast around the world.

''From today where Nelson Mandela's body will be lying at Amphitheatre; it will be called Nelson Mandela's Amphitheatre'', said President Jacob Zuma.

Quotes

''We learned so much from him, that's why we can learn so much from him still''-Obama
''The word Ubuntu encapsulates Mandela's greatest gift''- Barack Obama
''Nelson Mandela not only changed laws, but changed hearts''-Obama
''Being in his presence was like sitting with grace and majesty at the same time.  He will                    always be my hero''- Oprah Winfrey
''One of the greatest men who ever lived.  We will never forget the things this man has                      taught us''-Pop singer Rihanna

See you at Union Buildings today... I will be there.

Yours Sincerely Nelly Portia

Fathers are no longer entitled to be called- fathers, uncles, brothers and nephews.  They are monsters who live among us. Very tough situation, will we ever feel safe in our societies?  We speak everyday, dialogues are held in communities but men who violate women and children walk free everyday.  Lets speak out! Police should play a vital role in communities, and community members should assist Law Officials in apprehending criminals.  Department of Justice, Social Development, SAPS, Tshwane Youth Development, SASSA, BMW South Africa and Dep. of Correctional Services just to mention few; were invited to partake in this initiative.  A pledge was signed by all stakeholders and Cllr  Eulanda Mabusela.

It's Not About Race: SA SPORTS AWARDS 2013

Racism will always bother 'us' South Africans.  But it musn't contradict ''our thinking capacity''.  My take; views on this matter. m, Feel free to add your comment!

I have enjoyed watching South Africa's Sports Awards 2013 on Sunday 17.  Those who won deserve a round of applause.  I couldn't help it, the last award 'Sports Star of the Year'!  It came as surprise, even Khune himself was overwhelmed.  Critically speaking I thought Chad Le Clos would win it.  Yes, the ''Golden Boy'' was busy as a bee throughout the year.  Le Clos was nominated along with Khune, Hashim Amla [cricketer], Lucas Sithole [tennis] and Mapaseka Makhanya [runner].

                                                 Itumeleng Khune and Minie

Itumeleng Khune, SA no1 goalkeeper, Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs captain.  As much as I am Kaizer Chiefs [Khosi4Life] supporter and admire Khune's god-given talent, I was surprised and thought the sensational Le Clos  would win it.  Khune is brilliant, awesome, the best there's in the goalkeeping department and a good leader as well.  He's role as captain, especially at Kaizer Chiefs pays off very well; he excel tremendously.

Oh! Chad Le Clos a sensational swimmer, magnificent and victorious at any level of competition.  There's nothing compared to him when it come to SA's swimming.  Le Clos is currently a record holder in 200m butterfly, which he won recently at Fina Swimming World Cup.  In 2012, he beat Michael Phelps to win a gold medal.  The 21 year-old have won multiple medals and he continues to impress us by putting SA swimming Federation on the map.

Call it what you want, mediocre maybe? I tell you Kaizer Chiefs fans voted ; the people have spoken and Khune won SA Sports Star of the Year.  Congratulations... keep up the good work.

This week, Robert McBride was recommended to be the next head of IPID police watch dog.  Nathi Mthethwa, Police Minister wants former Ekurhuleni Metro Chief McBride to head up IPID [Independent Police Investigative Directory] post and believes that he is the right man for the job.  McBride was convicted in 2006;  he was then fired for drunk driving and crashing of an official vehicle.

''A panel of ANC has nominated McBride'', said DA's Dianne Kohler Barnard.  ANC has a majority of parliamentary member, strange things going on; strange political pressure and here comes Robert with shady deals... he is a loyal ANC member and that's only a qualification he have'', continued Barnard at eNCA newsroom- when news Anchor Andrew Barnes ask her what qualification must one have to qualify for this job [IPID].

Again ANC:  The So Called Nkandla report;  They are gunning Public Protector Thuli Mandonsela's investigation .  It is obvious, the findings of that report $$$ R226m used to upgrade security of President Zuma's homestead.  Will the truth be known?  They want to defeat the ends of JUSTICE, and thinks they are above the law...

Adorable and articulating Zitha, expressed concern about her parents not being supportive before; eventually they managed to understand it since she appeared on Daily Sun newspaper- Sun Babes photo-shoot.  Zitha's parents are now more supportive and preach about it at church.  Significatly speaking, modeling is still growing in the townships, and parents find it hard to except changes with their children's career paths.  Gone those days when an African child's dreams were shattered and limited.

Beautiful, elegant and brainy young people like Christina are successfully climbing leather to achieve extraordinary things in life.  Steadily and calm will eventually reach their goals.

Christina's Challenges at Fearless Walk

Fearless Walk Fashion Modeling and Casting Agency: Auditions 2013

It is the steady, constant divining to the goal for which you're striving, not the speed which you travel, that will make your victory sure.  It's the evalasting gaining without a whimper or complain at the burdens you are bearing or the woes you must endure.

The exact route Fearless Walk took to be where they are today.  Who are this people? a  month ago, I had an interview with one of the male models and co-owner of the agency, Mduduzi Gift Zwane.  Fearless Walk Fashion Modeling and Casting Agency is an an organization made up by agroup young people aiming to instill and promote modeling into the township.

Many of them hail from Atteridgeville and others around areas of Pretoria.  In 2003, the agency was formed by Gabriel Madiba.  Founder and owner Madiba, who started a business of modeling during his early days at school, did not give up in seeing his company rise from nothing to a steadily success.  He later on collaborated with Zwane, a longtime friend and a business partner in order to grow the company's name.  In 2009, Fearless Walk Fashion Modeling and Casting Agency was registered.  Year went by and they started to recruit other members.

Christina Zitha, Kewine Baloyi, Victor Agri Sehume and Oscar Mampuru are some of Fearless Walk models.  They got interested in modeling, particularly by the organization which entitled them to show case their talent and become professional in modeling career.  Many of them have progressed immensely through this agency.  They have grown, excelled on various levels of their career path.  In March 30, 2013, they have hosted Mr.  and Ms.  Attlyn mall 2013.  One of their successful beauty pageant event show.

From left-side: Zwane, Tshepo Kekana, Sandile Dludlu (newest member),
Christina Zitha, Gabriel Madiba [Founder]& Kewine Baloyi

Phenomenally speaking, it is said that they got the inability to produce talent and nature it adequately  On October 26, 2013, Fearless Walk hosted auditions at Attlyn Shopping Complex in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.  Whereby they were looking for girls and boys between the ages of 15 to 28 year-old who are passionate about fashion modeling, acting, presenting, photogenic and music videos.  Young people came out in their numbers; parents as well were accompanying and supporting their teenage kids to this initiative.
Victor Agri Sehume, Zwane, Dludlu and Oscar Mampuru

It was cloudy, but managed to finish before it began to rain.  The crwd cheered contestants as they compete, doing the 'cat walking' style and bouncing movements.  Even though some of supporrtive crowd were not pessimistic about the judges and competent SA's future models, they became vaguely and biased towards judges and contestants.  Still, that didn't stop young people's optimism for participating at the event.  ''Inexperience can sometimes trouble our perception''.

                                           Optimistic contestants at Attlyn Mall

Thato Mosipha, 19, from Danville Pretoria-West was one of the contestants I interviewed at the event.  I asked her how she found out about the auditions for modeling, she pleasantly said from Foundation Christian church; where she attends.  ''I recently did some modeling with Multi-Hand Production in Hammaskraal, Pretoria'', said Thato.  The beautiful young lady came all the way from Danville hoping and praying to be noticed and signed by the agency.

The 19 year-old, Mosipha started modeling in 2010, at her high school.  Due to school work commitments she she had to stop; put more focus in her school work.  She is currently studying at Intec College, Electrical Engineering course and it's her first year.  ''This year, that is when I reconsidered again'', said Mosipha making a comeback on Saturday to auditions for modeling.

She was accompanied by her younger sister, Tshepiso Mosipha.  And I asked if her parents are supportive, she proudly said yes, ''they gave me their blessing to be here''.  She has done a research first about the agency and advices others to do that before encountering problems.  Positive Thato want to gain more experience in modeling as a part-time career and hopes that she could go far with it.  Her experience with Fearless Walk Agency, ''they are very welcoming; productive too and would recommend someone to join... signup with them, explained Thato.

Her motto: I can even if it seems more difficult to reach, I go for it.

I thought I was done for the day, and I then saw this young man stirring at me.  Minutes later, he came to sit next to me.  That's when we started to talking, I then did an interview with him.  Thapelo John Mashishi, 18, hail from Atteridgeville West, Extention 6.  He attend school at Bokgoni Technical Secondary school and he is a former Mr.  Confidence Attlyn 2013, which was held in March 30.  Mashishi firmly said he's a big fan and a close friend of Tiego Ndhlovu, a contestant from SA's Got Talent show 2012.

The 18 year-old said to have been inspired by his late uncle, a former model at his teen years; who passed away in 2007.  The Mashishi's family is very approval of their son's talent in modeling.  In 2012, John's mom came along with her friends to support him at the beauty pageant show for Mr.  and Ms.  Bokgoni.  ''It was a surprising moment for me'', said John.

Thapelo is a God fearing young man, whenever I asked him a question 10minute wouldn't pass without mentioning God's presence and miracles that are happening in his life; holly moments.  "Through Christ everything is possible, if you only believe'', said John.  His motto: You always have to be punctual, have a criteria motive in life and be courageous; humble yourself around people and accommodate others.  Most importantly fear God!

Sponsorship of the day was Red Bull energy drink in partnership with Cell-C 'THE POWER IS IN YOUR HAND' network mobile services.  Fearless Walk approached them at their store, gave them their proposal in request to be assisted with drinks and other services provided.  Nathi Phetla, a regional store manager for Cell-C under franchiser Matqic 985 at Attlyn mall explained how their services assist young entrepreneurs like Fearless Walk Agency.

''We provide them with a free 200MB Monthly* X12 month, which enables them to stay connected and it is a good initiative, they are doing a marvelous job by keeping children away from the streets'', said Phetla.

                                                           Natji Phetla

'Today, we are pushing our brands as well and it's a pefect market'', added Phetla.

THE MALI'S HOME TURNED INTO POLITICAL BATTLEFIELD!!! Diepsloot tragedy turn Political.

Newly political parties, EFF AND Agang SA were in Diepsloot yesterday.  In the early hours of Thursday, both parties seize an opportunity to outshine and outcast one another, while the family is mourning the children.
Yonelisa and Zandile Mali, the two Toddlers.

The home of the two murdered toddlers in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg has been turned into a political battlefield.  This comes after, the two sisters, Yonelisa and Zandile, age 3 and 2, were found dead in a public toilet on Tuesday, and they were raped.  The malicious perpetrators were upprehended yesterday.  The  four men, were taken in for questioning in connection with the murder of two toddlers, have been charge with two counts of murder, two counts of rape and one count of  abduction.  They will appear in Pretoria Magistrate Court, today.

In the early hours of today, A firth man, believed to be the prime suspect in connection with the death of two children in Diepsloot has been arrested by police. Meanwhile, the firth suspect will appear in Preotoria Magistrate Court on Monday 21, 2013.  An identity kit of the firth suspect was issued yesterday, to the  public in large.  The community of Alexandra, alerted the policice, wherefore the perpetrator was arrested in the early hours [0:01am] of today, Police have confirmed it.  Police were offering R100 000 reward for information of the whereabout of the prime suspect.  It is believe that, the 5th suspect is a South African citizen, hail from KZN [Kwazulu Natal], Durban.  And has been linked to the 5 year-old child murder that occurred last month.

Zandile and Yonelisa Mali, will be buried on Saturday 19.

Back to the battlefield: " I'm here as a mother, to support this family.  This is not about votes at all'', said Agang's Vanessa Hani.  On the other side, EFF members, wanted to be seen, have their say too.  They made their presence felt, slamming Agang SA as a party that knows nothing about plight of Diepsloot residence, and blamming the ANC[Africa National Congress] for poor living conditions in the area -source by enca.com-

"We are aware there are some mickey mouse parties that have come to this family.  Why does that granny not come here and build roads and houses with her millions instead of showing them off in the media?" said EFF Gauteng representative Patric Sindane.

The bereaved family:  "This fighting and arguing is really disturbing to us, as we are still mourning the children'', said Yonelisa's mother Thokozani Mali.

Awkward situation:  The newly parties are on the race, what kind of race is this...Mali's family have lost their children.  They are mourning the children.  Both political parties seek attention, they have failed already.  Disturbing as it is, why keep on blamming ANC?  Instead of creating solutions or come up with good [own] solutions.  For EFF to talk about Agang's Leader, It's diminutive of them... absolutely disrupt, disrespectful and zero inexcusable.

Though It's inevitable, It is wrong and distasteful.  Mickey Mouse parties? really who are mickey mouse parties...really?  EFF is among mickey mouse parties_  Show some empathy.

Be Calm

True Story:  A dear friend of mine shared the following story with me.  So I thought, why not blog the story and share it with you...my blogger friends, favourite people in the World.  Yes, I said that!  Hope you will learn something and be able to acknowledge the importance of  Calm.

While a man was polishing his new car, his six-year-old son picked up a stone and scratched line on the side of the car.  In anger, the man took the child's hand and hit it many times not realizing he was using a wrench.  By the time he realize that, it was too late.  He then, rushed his son to the hospital.  At the hospital, the child lost all his fingers due to multiple fractures.

When the child saw his fingers... with painful eyes he asked, Dad when will my fingers grow back?  The man was so hurt and speechless, he went back to his car and kicked it a lot of times.  Devastated by his own actions.... sitting in front of the car that car, he looked at the scratches; the child had written, ''LOVE YOU DAD''.  The next day, he committed suicide.

Message:  Anger and love have no limits, choose the latter to have a beautiful loving life.  Things are to be used and people are to be loved.  But the problem in today's world is that, people are used and things are loved.  Watch your thoughts, they become words.  Watch your words, they become actions.  Watch your actions, they become habits, Watch your habits, they become character.  Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.

I am glad a friend forwarded this to me as a reminder.  God bless you.  If you don't pass this on nothing bad will happen, If you do, you might change someone's life.
Do you know the relationship between your two eyes?  They blink together, move together, cry together, see together and sleep together.  Even though they never see each other.  Friendships should be just like that!  Life is vanity without friends.  It's ''World Best Week''!

Who is your best friend?  Send this to all your good friends. Be Calm, be at peace with yourself.

And remember:  'Everything that happens is either a blessing, which is also a lesson.  Or a lesson, which is a blessing'

Dialog: We meet no ordinary people in our lives. If you give them a chance; everyone has something to offer.

Promoting Health and Social justice for vulnerable groups including, refugees in the communities through community dialog.  Tirisano Centre in Collaboration with CHS Community Engagement, UNISA and Multisectoral AIDS management Unit City of  Tshwane.

On October 09, 2013, I was invited to this initiative as a Journalist to participate in a dialog and learn as well.  Members coming from different organizations were flocked in a Chamber room, at the Municipal Offices of Atteridgeville in Pretoria.  We firstly introduced ourselves in order to begin a dialog. Thereafter, we selected into groups of  five people each in order to participate on various dialog forms on critical health and social problems in our communities such as;
  • Stigma and discrimination
  • Gender based violence
  • Alcohol and Drug abuse
  • Vulnerable groups like refugees and LBGTI's
Dialog Moderator:  Mr Kulubrehan Abraham and Mr Hamlet Lesele

There is a divine beauty in learning, just as there is human beauty in tolerance.  To learn means to accept the postulate that life did not begin at my birth.  Others have been there before me, and I walk in their footsteps. I am the sum total of their experience, their quests.  And so are you_ by Eliezer Wiesel_
As the dialog deepens, Eugene, an attendee in the group session explained that., post 1994/1996 there were some fears in the community of Atteridgeville surrounding stigma and discrimination.  A high rate of stigmatization, which led to isolation and neglect.  People were degraded, humiliated, labeled on various forms, which made it difficult to talk about HIV/AIDS related matters due to lack of education.  ''Things have changed now, people are informed but they ignorant to learn more about it", continued Eugene.

Families react differently towards diseases, especially HIV and Aids.  We  neglect our loved ones in fear of discrimination by the society, not realizing the pain and suffering one goes when sick.  The normality is that, families are the supporting structure when one is infected with a disease, whereas members of the community react differently.

Stigma and discrimination forms a barrier between culture, religion and reality.  A supportive structure should be created, which will enable people especially the older generation to learn and adjust to the times.  Furthermore, both houses [religion&culture] should play a significant role on the subject matter.  The house in large agree to disagree about different matters discussed above, but harshly opressed to intensify more education, and efffective communication which requires a good listening skill.

Alcohol and drug abuse in our community are the most challenging ones.  School drop-out, mostly cause by alcohol and drugs, particularly on boy child.  Rehabilitation Centres are there, but what happens when one comes out? ''It's unfortunately we don't attend this issues... they become vulnerable and go back to their bad habits", said Lucky Raseroka an attendee as well.

The state of our health institutions is unsatisfactory due to lack of care towards patients, poor management, proper training, maladministration and corruption.  The state runs out of  funds, facilities are not well cared for, therefore drug abusers are no longer caded.  Back to the street again, victimize  memebers of the community.  Yes, we have organizations who represent and attend this matters.  The problem is that, when you do not belong to a certain grooup/organization and you don't participate in the community meetings in order to acquire information... nothing will happen.

"We talk but don't reach an understanding, critical problems need to be addressed", said Kulubreh Abraham Project Coordinator from Unisa.  Certainly, commitees are formed, we attend meeting called by our councillors, but we fail to reach an understanding and find solutions to the problems.  "There must be a new strategic programmes, create new ones and engage more oftern to save and build a better nation", added Mr Abraham.

On the subject of rape and gender based violence, the problematic ones.  Gone are those days women look after children or stay home moms and take care of the houses.  Now, women pursue careers, become CEO's of new horizons and multitask es ever being before.  Most men fail to understand that!  These where domestic violance begins, disputes and abuse.  Men feel that, they are entittled to beat or abuse physically, emotionally and mentally.  Phenomenally speaking, our attitudes determines us of who we are, they implies positive or negative evaluation about someone. We need to get along, tolerate one another.

Rape is a problematic factor, no one wanted to talk about it, until a raise a question.  The upbringing of a child/person, fundamental rule at home.  Self worth, was the person loved or taught to love and respect him/herself first, how to behave around people and treate others with dignity and respect.

The Refugee matter was our last straw.  We were taught the differences between Immigration and Migration, the refugees too.  Halmet Lesele, a dialog moderator, initially informed us about Xenophobia_ known as Afrophobia[African Attacks], simply means a fear of or hatred towards the African brothers and sisters {Foreigners} who seek refuge in South Africa.  "We give them names, arguably saying they steal our jobs, businesses and women", explained Mr Lesele.

In 2008, the world witnessed large scale xenophobic violence aimed at foreign migrats, a period during which the hostility towards small scale  entrepreneurs became very clear.  Foreigners were accused of ''stealing work from locals" in a difficult ecomomic climate.  Somali small traders and entrepreneurs specially
were accused of udercutting the prices of locals and many of them were killed in the xenophobic attacks.

Xenophobia is a crime against huminity, slows down the economy; people are killed senselessly; skills from foreigners are lost.  A number of foreigners are in South Africa as asylum seekers due to wars and other socio-economic problems in their countries.  South Africa as a sovereign country has a responsibility to accomodate these foreigners.  However, ordinary citizens do not understand this.

The hope of Africa is in South Africa.  Whatever fails in South Africa, we send bad messeges to other countries especially in Europe.  Violence is giving a ''bad image'' about the beauty of South Africa, so lets unit and tolarate one another, said Abraham closing a dialog.

Remember people:  Each one teach one.

Mduduzi Gift Zwane, 20, will soon appear on Generations, South Africa's most watched soapie, on SABC 1{South Africa Broadcasting Cooperation}.   Who is Mduduzi Gift Zwane? Well, the 20-year-old hail from Atteridgeville, Extension 7.  He tremendously made a breakthrough in his career path by being featured on Generation.

Born and raised in Atteridgeville, coming from a family of five, with three siblings Zwane had always wanted to appear on television.  He attended Bud-Mbelle and Phutaditshaba Primary School, thereafter went to Edward Phatudi High School where he obtained his matric in 2012.  On September 6, 2013, I sat with him at  GoWired  WiFi spot in Atteridgeville Municipal Offices to interview him.  I was interested to know more about his future plans, the challenges he met along the way and more about his role on Generations.

As the interview deepens, he spoke fluently and firmly about acting, modeling and his collaboration with Thusanang Community Project.  Passionate and ambitious, Zwane's love for acting entice a lot about his character.  He is an observant, very intellectual and committed as well.  He is currently an actor, model, manager and co-owner of Fearless Walk Agency.

Zwane's role will be featured in December, and he will be known as Phumelele's friend.  He will also be seen in a new drama series, which will be aired soon on SABC 1. The drama series is based on Task Force, which tackles variety of corruption.  Fearless Walk Agency, a company he co-own with Gabriel Modiba [Founder&Co-owner] which started in 2003, helped he mature in acting industry.  In 2009, the company was registered under the influence of high rate of unemployment in the community and passion for casting agency.  Enthusiastic as ever, Zwane stayed focused and committed to his craft hoping to be acknowledged, to be recognized by someone.

Starting a business in not easy, especially coming from a poor background were there isn't a support structure and reliance.  Tough as it is, Gabriel Madiba, founder of Fearless Walk Agency, went all-out to assist Zwane's triumph.  When I asked him how he got this geek {feature part} on Generations? He vehemently said, ''I am a hustle, through Jays Artist''.  We met with Vusi, the manager of  Jays Artist  in order to get this opportunity.  Vusi, have seen me in one of the events show and got interested about my craft, thereafter gave me a call, explained Zwane.
